The company
We are a small, socially engaged and profit-oriented company called Colorful Life OOD. The company started in late 2011 in a small town called Kostinbrod, about 15km from Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.
It all started out of nowhere. Sometime around 2008, Gery had an accident that bedridden her for more than half a year. Her two main pastimes during her recovery were visiting friends in the neighborhood and knitting. Especially on weekdays, knitting dominated. The result was a great update to the wardrobe of Gery's son - Boris: unique hand-knitted sweaters, hats and scarves, real jewelry for the winter. When she fully recovered, Gery continued to knit unique things for her family and friends, some of which you can find here.
It then occurred to Boris that he could sell warm sweaters and hats to his colleagues at the software company he worked for. The cold-blooded programmers were soon equipped with homemade knitted colored scarves and hats. The demand for the so-called programmer’s "uniform" soon exceeded the supply. When they learned of this, Gery's friends expressed a desire to knit as well, as long as Boris found buyers for their wares.
At that time, Boris was just an intermediary who organized events in the office or just sent an email to his colleagues, so that those wishing to buy warm hand-knitted wool socks always had a choice. His only gain then was the joy of knitters and the warm feet and ears of his colleagues.
You, dear visitors, will hardly be surprised that in small towns like Kostinbrod it is difficult to find a well-paid job. It is difficult to find any work at all. Our desire, then and now, is to help these elderly women from the poorest country in Europe to be paid for decent and unique work. That's how our company was created!
Over the next ten years, the work went more at low tide, but less at high tide. Some of our workers stopped knitting (very rarely of their own free will), and others came in their place. Some of the models sold easily, others hard, others sold at a loss. For years, our small company was moving downstream, without trying to offer our warm, colorful sweaters to more people. After all, both Gery and Boris had another profession. Both Gery and Boris also had other, engaging hobbies (Gery had grandchildren to look after, and to this day Boris is dedicated to volunteering for a foundation that cares for children deprived of parental care).
Then, in 2020, Gergana's other child, Monica, joined the team. At first, just looking for a hobby, she got involved in hand knitting products. The spirit of the "enterprise" fascinated her and Monica soon set out to develop our company and make it more accessible to more knitting women, who would be given the opportunity to knit more time. Her little brother Boris was told, that it was time to make an e-shop to get out of the small bubble in which the company was circulating and to develop into the vast Internet space. The goal of our company is, and always will be, more people who need side income, to be able to be attracted and to be guaranteed long-term commitment and decent pay for colorful, warm and masterfully knitted clothes and hats.
That's how we got to you, dear reader! Things are going great for us!!! In addition to Gergana and Monica, since 2020, the company has four other ladies who actively knit and create the unique products that you can find on this site. From 2020, the company also has a small photo studio, where Boris and Monica take pictures of the products.
Our aim
Our goals are three.
- To grow. Written in the first place, but in reality it is the last - caused by the next two ...
- We want to create only unique products - there is no product of ours that can be purchased twice. We want to emphasize the uniqueness of our customers, with hand-knitted clothes and accessories that do not have a second copy.
- But most of all we want to offer more needy people additional income in return for their honest work. Bulgaria is the poorest country in the European Union, and Northwestern Bulgaria is the poorest region. The average salary in this area is about 460 euros per month - after taxes. The minimum wage for a country after taxes is 260 euros. Very often in families in this area one parent does not work or is in seasonal work, where he/she receives the minimum rate. Even more often, young people leave their homes to work in Western Europe, leaving their parents alone. Our cause is to reach people from these areas, to give them a chance to support their parents and study their children, as well as to build a pleasant social environment along with their useful hobby.
